Firefox Search Plugins (Linux)

I think adding search plugins stopped working for me since I upgraded Firefox to 0.9. I never really bother to find out why or a solution. I can still go to the original site to do the search, besides I only use Google and dictionary.com most of the time. I search IMDB and Wikipedia from time to time. So it’s a convinience to have them added, but not a major issue.

Anyway, I just finished my online exam and just waiting for the next session to start while I finally was motivated enough to “hunt down” the problem. Adding engines works in Windows with 1.0PR. So I thought it must be a Linux platform issue. Google pointed me to Red Hat bugzilla #134701. Apparently the search plugins are installed system-wide, and per-user searchplugins directory is not yet implemented. So one workaround is to install the plugins as root, if you have root access, of course.
